What is IMDS? The International Material Data System (IMDS) is a web-based electronic system, which was launched by leading OEMs from the automobile sector to register all parts and accessories which are used for the manufacturing of vehicles. The original system was developed jointly by Audi, BMW, Daimler, Chrysler, Ford, Opel, Porsche, Volkswagen and Volvo.
Why has this
system been developed?
With the IMDS
you have an entire system for archiving and maintaining the data of all
materials used in vehicles, in one database. This system assures, that OEMs and
their suppliers act regarding the international and national standards, laws
and directives. In the future, the database could facilitate the recycling of
end-of-life-vehicles.
Membership
Since its
foundation, further manufacturers have joined the group. The community now
additionally includes Fiat, Fuji Heavy Industries, General Motors, Hyundai,
Isuzu, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Nissan Diesel, Suzuki as well as
